In this movie Ill show you how to close multiple Illustrations in a single operation. And the reason this is variable is because most folks dont know the feature exists. And there are times we are cleaning up for the day, and you just want to get everything off your screen and feel a sense of accomplishment. Now I want you to notice in passing here that I have Three Illustrations open, and Ive made slight changes to every one of them. Just so that Illustrator will generate a Warning when I try to close the file. Now one way to close all Illustrations is to click on the Close button for the Application which on the PC is located in the upper right corner. However, that will quit the program thats just the same as going to the File menu and choosing either the Exit Command here on the PC or the Quick Command on the Mac. Now if youre working on a Mac, you may see all of your Open Documents as Tabs inside of one big document window with a light gray title bar, in which case, you can go ahead and click on the Close button on the far left side of the Title Bar, and that will go ahead and close all documents that are open as tabs inside of that Window. And then youll be asked if you want to save your changes, we will come back to that in a moment. The problem is this option while convenient is not an option on the PC and whether youre working on a Mac, or the PC you only have one Standard Close Command under the File menu. And that Command Closes the Active Document and only the Active Document. What we really want to do is close everything, theres just one Standard Close Command which is going to close the Active Illustration and nothing more. Notice however, that there is a keyboard shortcut of Ctrl+W, or Command+W on the Mac. If you have the Alt key here on the PC or the Option key on a Mac, youll initiate the closing of all open Illustrator CS6. Let me show you how that works. Go ahead and escape out of there, and then press Ctrl+Alt+W, that would be Command+Opt+W on a Mac. Youll notice now I get warning thats telling me that I have Unsaved Changes What I Want to Do about It. And I am going to get this warning for each and every document that has changes. On a PC, your first buttons is going to be Yes lets Save on the Mac, and that will course update the file. If you dont want to update the file you just want throw your edits away, then you click No here on the PC or dont Save on a Mac, and finally you have got a Cancel button which will stop the closing of the files and leave everything the way it was. You also have keyboard shortcuts incidentally. Here on the PC their Y for Yes and N for No and Escape for Escape or Cancel. Here on a Mac, your the buttons appear in a different order, its S for Save, its D for Dont Save, and its the Escape key to Cancel Out. I am just doing this for the sake of demonstration. So I am going to press the End key in over to activate the No button, that would be D for Dont Save on the Mac, and finally Ill just press the End key again and that closes every single one of those three opened files. And now you can go home knowing you had a productive day and no one can ruin your Open Documents while youre away from the office.
